After reading our guide, you will know how to:
It cannot be stressed enough: be careful what you apply to your skin and mucous membranes, as it can have significant long-term consequences. We advise you to do your research every time you buy a product.
We know it can be complicated to navigate all these complex names, but many apps now help us know what's good for us and what's not, such as Inci Beauty, Yuka, CosmEthics, Clean Beauty...
Generally, it's important to know that no matter your skin type, organic, natural, and vegan cosmetics, makeup, and products will always be better for your skin and your health than non-organic and conventional formulas.
An organic cosmetic product is a beauty product made from natural ingredients such as vegetable oils, essential oils, or natural waxes, largely sourced from organic farming. By prioritizing these ingredients over the chemical active ingredients of conventional cosmetics, organic and natural cosmetics minimize their impact on the planet, in terms of ingredient sourcing, harvesting methods, production, and packaging.
Furthermore, these active ingredients are respectful of our health because they replace any harmful ingredients for our body such as parabens, silicones, sulfates, synthetic colorants, and fragrances, derived from petrochemicals. This also allows for a composition without animal-derived extracts. For example, pork glycerin is replaced by vegetable glycerin. Moreover, organic cosmetics are, in most cases, also VEGAN (be sure to check the labels and verify that the product you've spotted truly is). A certified VEGAN product bans animal testing. To ensure that the product you wish to purchase is indeed organic, we invite you to refer to independent labels renowned for their impartiality and strictness: the Cosmebio and Ecocert labels.
Does your skin feel tight and itchy? Do you rarely have blemishes and your skin doesn't shine? Do you sometimes have dead skin and cracks? Then you most likely have dry skin.
Your skin needs to be gently nourished. Organic cosmetics are perfect for this skin type because vegetable oils, vegetable butters, and floral waters are the main components of organic and natural cosmetics. They are rich in fatty acids and will help restore the hydrolipidic barrier to protect against external aggressions and retain moisture in the tissues.
Daily, cleanse your face without drying it out using an oil and moisturize your skin with our organic moisturizing cream. For makeup, bring comfort to your skin by favoring light and fluid textures like our moisturizing CC cream which provides light coverage for a matte and natural finish. All its ingredients are of natural origin: apply these products with your eyes closed!
Combination skin tends to shine in the T-zone, while it is drier on the cheeks and the rest of the face. The challenge for this skin type is to restore balance between these distinct areas without irritating them.
Take your time to cleanse your face; prioritize double cleansing.
Before applying makeup, apply your primer to the T-zone to mattify your skin, which allows for better makeup application and prevents the skin from shining. Then, depending on your preferences, apply an organic BB cream with a covering texture to beautify, protect, even out, and refine your skin's texture (perfect for combination skin!). Mainly composed of aloe vera, our BB cream is applied to the entire face and hydrates it throughout the day. Mattify your skin with a compact powder that will control shine in the T-zone. You now have the perfect combo for clear, even skin all day long.
The majority of conventional cosmetic products are made from synthetic ingredients derived from petrochemicals or animal sources and contain very few natural raw materials. Instead, they are mainly composed of agents harmful to the skin and the environment.
1️⃣ Your favorite mascara is probably composed of mineral oils, which you can recognize on labels by these pretty names: OZOKERITE POLYISOBUTYLENE, PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM... These are petroleum derivatives, also present in face and body creams, foundations, sun products... Totally occlusive, they deposit an occlusive film on the skin that will prevent its dehydration. In addition, these are comedogenic oils. These petroleum derivatives are responsible for skin irritations and allergies, and may contain polyaromatic hydrocarbons that are potentially carcinogenic. To top it all off, they are non-biodegradable: hence very polluting.
2️⃣ Perhaps there are also some emulsifiers? Recognizable by these names: POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL (PEG), POLYPROPYLENE GLYCOL (PPG), PEG-6, PEG-100, STEARATE, DISTEARATE... Primarily used as an emulsifying or humectant agent, they provide consistency and creaminess to creams. They are found in liquid soaps, moisturizing creams, shampoos, hydroalcoholic gels... They make the skin permeable, allowing for greater absorption of the product, including impurities present in PEG compounds (ethylene oxide, 1,4-dioxane, polycyclic aromatic compounds, and heavy metals: lead, iron, nickel, cadmium, arsenic). For this reason, they are suspected of being carcinogenic.
3️⃣ Silicones, such as AMODIMETHICONE, OLISILOXANE, DIMETHICONE... They are very widespread and found in almost all cosmetics. These petroleum derivatives settle on the surface of the skin and hair, giving them a smooth appearance. However, they are suspected of having a semi-occlusive effect on the skin, preventing it from breathing. "True" treatments can then no longer penetrate. These molecules take many years to disintegrate in nature and disrupt ecosystems.
4️⃣ Preservatives and antioxidants, such as parabens. These preserving agents are used in many products. They penetrate the skin and are suspected of being allergens. Considered endocrine disruptors, they can cause allergies, sterility, and even trigger cancers.
5️⃣ And finally, the sweet synthetic smell from fragrances usually represents a complex mixture of dozens of chemicals. Many can be irritating and trigger allergies, migraines, and asthma symptoms in some people. People with environmental illnesses and multiple chemical sensitivities are particularly vulnerable.
