    Watery, stinging or itchy eyes?

What products should you use for sensitive eyes?

  • After reading our guide, you will know:

    - Recognize sensitive eyes and understand the causes
    - Choose products suitable for sensitive eyes

Having sensitive eyes shouldn't stop you from enjoying a beautiful smoky eye or a perfect liner. However, between stinging, redness, and watery eyes, makeup (and makeup removal) can become a real challenge.
The key? Choosing gentle formulas that respect the very thin skin around them.

    How to recognize sensitive eyes?

But how do you know if your eyes are really sensitive? Generally, they have their own way of telling you "Stop."

    Here are the tell-tale signs:

    • Uncomfortable sensations that appear quickly: itching, stinging, burning.
    • Redness that appears around the eye or on the mobile eyelid for no particular reason.
    • Zero tolerance for certain products (conventional makeup, removers) or external aggressions such as wind, cold, or pollution.

If you recognize yourself in these signs, you most likely have sensitive eyes (don't worry, you've come to the right place!).

Why do your eyes react like that?

The skin barrier around the eyes is very thin, so all the products you apply penetrate the skin more easily. Note that this barrier is even thinner in some people, which increases sensitivity.

This permeability makes the area particularly vulnerable to chemical components. Reactions (redness, tingling) are often triggered by the preservativesfragrances, or synthetic pigments in conventional makeup. This is why it is much better to use natural and organic products, formulated without fragrance to avoid irritating this delicate area.

Skincare step: Which products to choose to prep and remove makeup from sensitive eyes?

Adopting a suitable routine is the first step to soothing your eyes. Here are two essential steps to stop dreading the eye area.

    Opt for gentle makeup removers

Makeup removal is often the most dreaded step; the golden rule is gentleness.

Systematically check that your products have been ophthalmologically tested. At Charlotte Bio, we take no risks; all our products likely to come into contact with the eyes (mascaras, and even our eye and lip pencils) undergo these rigorous tests. Opt for a special "eye" makeup remover; they are gentler. Finally, avoid classic cotton pads, aggressive rubbing, and products containing alcohol or perfume as much as possible.

    Use an eye contour treatment

The sensitive skin around the eyes requires special care. Look for the following active ingredients in your products:

    • Hyaluronic acid for irritation-free hydration.
    • Niacinamide, a gentle anti-inflammatory perfect for calming the area.
    • Caffeine or green tea extract to avoid the unpleasant heating sensation.
    • Peptides, ceramides, provitamin B5 (panthenol), very powerful as soothing repairers.

The makeup step : which products to choose to enhance without irritating?

Having sensitive eyes doesn't mean giving up on makeup, quite the opposite! You just need to revamp your beauty bag with gentle and suitable products.

Choose "high tolerance" formulas, always opt for mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadows specifically designed for sensitive eyes. Check that the formulas are fragrance-free, paraben-free, and free of irritating particles.

Avoid loose powders that are too volatile and can migrate into the eye. Instead, opt for cream textures or gentle compact powders, which adhere perfectly to the eyelid.

Use gentle long-lasting or waterproof products to minimize the risk of smudging and avoid unnecessary rubbing.

Finally, before purchasing, look for mentions like "Ophthalmologically tested," "Suitable for sensitive eyes," or "Hypoallergenic / Alcohol-free." These will be your best safety guarantees.

    Charlotte's team's tips

    Products and practices to avoid:

To keep your eyes looking fresh and prevent reactions, there are a few pitfalls to steer clear of. Here's the Team's blacklist to protect your beautiful eyes:

    • Using a "classic" mascara that isn't suitable: this is mistake number 1. Classic formulas are often too loaded with solvents. Our solution, the Volume Boost Mascara, is fragrance-free and enriched with vegetable oils (castor, jojoba) to nourish lashes. It is certified ophthalmologically & dermatologically tested.
    • Rubbing your eyes, whether it's right after application or at the end of the day, avoid touching your eyes. You risk migrating pigments or cream directly into the mucous membrane, which immediately triggers stinging and tearing.
    • Sharing your products... when it comes to eyes, we don't share! You risk exchanging bacteria and getting conjunctivitis.
    • Ignoring the expiration date, do you see that small open jar symbol with a number (e.g., 6M) on the back of your products? That's the expiration date! A mascara that has been open for more than 6 months is a breeding ground for microbes. If the date has passed, throw it away without regret for your health.
